About Willow

Willow is building the compliance infrastructure for aged care, disability, and healthcare organizations.

Most providers are forced to manage compliance across spreadsheets, shared drives, emails, PDFs, legacy systems, and disconnected software. Evidence lives everywhere. Reporting is duplicated. Audits become stressful projects instead of normal operations. Teams spend more time preparing for compliance than improving care.

The Role

We're looking for an AI, Data & Machine Intelligence Engineer to help build the intelligence layer that makes Willow genuinely useful to care organisations — not just a compliance dashboard, but an AI-powered copilot that helps teams understand where they stand, spot gaps, and take the right actions.

AI at Willow is not a gimmick. We use it where it actually helps — drafting compliance documents, answering questions in plain language, surfacing gaps and risks before audits, and prioritising what care teams should focus on next. In this role, you'll build and improve the systems that make this possible, working closely with the platform engineering team and our healthcare domain experts.

Key Responsibilities

Design and build AI-powered features including evidence gap detection, compliance Q&A, and AI-assisted document drafting for care organisations

Develop and maintain LLM-based pipelines that can accurately interpret and respond to questions about regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions

Work with compliance domain experts to evaluate AI outputs for accuracy, relevance, and safety — and implement feedback loops to continuously improve quality

Build data pipelines that aggregate, structure, and enrich evidence from connected systems (HR, clinical, incident management) to support compliance analysis

Maintain a strong awareness of AI safety, responsible use, and data privacy in healthcare contexts — including HIPAA, APPs, and equivalent frameworks

Stay current on the rapidly evolving AI/LLM landscape and identify where new capabilities can be applied responsibly within Willow's platform

Qualifications

3+ years of hands-on experience building AI/ML systems — including working with LLMs, embeddings, RAG architectures, or similar techniques

Strong Python skills and familiarity with the modern AI/ML stack (e.g., OpenAI APIs, LangChain, vector databases, fine-tuning pipelines)

A strong engineering mindset — you don't just prototype, you build things that are reliable, well-structured, and maintainable in production

Deep appreciation for the importance of accuracy and safety when AI is used in regulated environments

Experience building data pipelines and working with structured and unstructured data at scale

Bonus: experience with healthcare data standards, document intelligence, or working in a domain where AI outputs carry real-world consequences

What We Offer

Competitive salary, commensurate with experience

Flexible, remote-first working arrangements based in Australia

A domain where the stakes of getting AI right genuinely matter — you'll be building systems that help care organisations avoid compliance failures that affect vulnerable people

An AI problem space that is genuinely hard and interesting — not just API wrappers, but real reasoning, retrieval, and domain adaptation challenges

Work alongside domain experts, engineers, and product people who are all pulling in the same direction

Significant autonomy to shape how AI is used within Willow — this is a role for someone who wants to do their best work, not just execute a brief
